Great question! 🏅 Here's the latest on sports-based entry for undergraduate (UG) admission in IITs:

🏆 Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) – IIT Madras & IIT Indore

🔹 What is SEA?

The Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) is a new initiative introduced by IIT Madras (starting 2024–25) and IIT Indore (joining in 2025–26) to recognize and reward students who have excelled in sports.

🔹 Key Highlights:

  • Supernumerary Seats:
    • IIT Madras: 2 extra seats per UG program (1 gender-neutral, 1 female-only)
    • IIT Indore: 1 gender-neutral seat per UG program
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Must be an Indian national or OCI/PIO card holder (card issued before March 4, 2021)
    • Must qualify JEE Advanced and appear in the Common Rank List (CRL) or category-wise rank list
    • Must have won at least one medal in a national or international-level sports competition in the last 4 years
  • Admission Process:
    • Not through JoSAA
    • Apply via a separate SEA portal maintained by IIT Madras
    • A Sports Rank List (SRL) is prepared based on achievements
    • Seat allotment is based on SRL

🏅 Recognized Sports Include:

Athletics, Aquatics, Chess, Cricket, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Squash, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, and more.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • SEA is not a general sports quota like in some state universities.
  • You still need to clear JEE Advanced, but the SEA route gives additional consideration for sports excellence.
  • Only IIT Madras and IIT Indore currently offer this pathway.
